BMC appoints project management consultant for Mumbai Coastal Road
In December 2023, BMC concluded the selection of four contractors for the ambitious MCRP Phase 2. This 18.47 km road will connect Versova to Dahisar and feature a 4.46 km connector to GMLR. The Versova-Dahisar Link Road (DVLR) will incorporate double elevated roads, a road on stilts, a cable-stayed bridge, and an underground tunnel passing below Malad and Kandivali through the Mangrove creeks. DVLR will enhance connectivity with the GMLR project, aimed at linking the Western and Eastern Express Highways.
The DVLR project is segmented into six packages, including twin tunnels of 3.66 km each in packages C and D. The construction will involve creating north and south-bound carriageways between Mindspace and Charkop (Kandivali). Megha Engineering has been awarded the contract for this work, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 58.21 billion. A civic official stated, "The PMCs will oversee the overall progress of the work and finalise contract designs, including reviewing designs and drawings in line with actual site conditions, suggesting modifications as necessary."
Additionally, the BMC is developing a twin underground tunnel from Film City in Goregaon (western suburbs) to Khindipada in Mulund (eastern suburbs). This project includes a 1.65 km-long and 6-meter-deep box tunnel serving as an approach road to the 4.75 km six-lane tunnel, starting from Film City and terminating at Khindipada. The PMC will play a crucial role in supervising the work on these twin tunnels.
