26-km Elevated Corridor Planned to Link Thane with NMIA
Currently, Thane’s access to NMIA is limited to Thane-Belapur Road and Palm Beach Road, both of which face heavy congestion. This new corridor will provide a faster, uninterrupted route. The corridor will begin at Patni Chowk in Thane, running 17 km parallel to Thane-Belapur Road before extending 9 km as a double-decker elevated road from Vashi to NMIA. The latter section, however, will require environmental clearances due to mangroves and coastal regulation zone restrictions.
Estimated to cost Rs 80 billion, the project’s timeline will depend on approvals, land acquisition, and environmental compliance. Meanwhile, additional road and bridge projects are in the pipeline to further improve NMIA’s accessibility.
