Hyderabad Airport Leads Passenger Growth in 2024
According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) recorded the highest passenger traffic growth among Indian metro airports in 2024, with a 14.8 per cent increase over the previous year. Bengaluru followed with 9.5 per cent growth, while Kolkata saw a 9 per cent rise. Delhi and Mumbai recorded moderate increases of 7.8 per cent and 6.3 per cent, respectively, while Chennai had the lowest growth at 5.3 per cent.
On January 18, RGIA handled 94,630 passengers and 607 aircraft movements in a single day, marking a significant milestone. The airport recorded a total passenger traffic of 2.78 crore in 2024, with December seeing a record-breaking 27.05 lakh passengers, reflecting a 20 per cent Y-o-Y increase.
Throughout the year, steady growth was observed, with monthly passenger traffic fluctuating but maintaining an upward trend. The highest single-day passenger traffic was recorded on December 22, with over 92,000 travellers. In December, domestic passengers accounted for 23 lakh, while 4 lakh were international travellers.
