Hong Kong Airport to Open Third Runway on November 28
The third runway, spanning 3,800 meters, is a major milestone for the 3RS project, which includes expanding the Terminal 2 building, a new T2 Concourse, and automated people movers. Once completed in 2024, 3RS will allow HKIA to handle over 100 million passengers and 10 million tons of cargo annually, reinforcing its status as one of the world's most significant aviation gateways.
This expansion is timely, as Hong Kong emerges from stringent COVID-19 travel restrictions and seeks to re-establish itself as a premier air transit center in Asia. The third runway aligns with Hong Kong's efforts to attract more international traffic and strengthen its logistics industry, which is vital for the region's economic recovery and development.
With this new addition, HKIA is poised to offer enhanced services, reduced delays, and strengthened global connectivity. The full completion of the 3RS project will not only bolster HKIA's capacity but also ensure Hong Kong remains a key player in global aviation.
