The Ministry of Defence has granted in-principle approval for the Telangana government’s proposal to develop Adilabad Airport for civilian air operations. This development follows detailed discussions between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the state government. The IAF has agreed to permit civilian aircraft operations at the Adilabad airfield and has recommended its development as a joint-user airport in coordination with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

To facilitate civilian operations, AAI will be required to acquire additional land adjacent to the existing airfield. This land will be used to construct a civil terminal, aircraft parking apron, and related infrastructure. Furthermore, the existing runway must undergo resurfacing, and a new taxiway will need to be built to link the civil apron with the runway. The IAF has requested that AAI submit a comprehensive proposal to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for these developments.

This approval follows a similar clearance granted for Mamnoor Airport in Warangal earlier this year, marking significant progress in the state’s efforts to enhance its aviation infrastructure. Securing clearances for two airports within a short period reflects the Telangana government’s proactive approach to improving connectivity and promoting regional development.

The state government is actively collaborating with AAI to expedite the submission of necessary proposals and secure further approvals to initiate construction work. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to boost economic growth and accessibility in northern Telangana and other under-served regions.
