Central Team Assesses Locations for Kothagudem Airport

A six-member team from the Union government visited Kothagudem district in Telangana to assess potential locations for a proposed airport. Officials from the Airport Authority of India examined several sites, including Garibpet, Sujathanagar, Chunchupalli, and Kothagudem mandals.

Khammam MP R Raghuram stressed the importance of having an airport in Kothagudem, pointing out the region’s economic potential and the long travel time, which currently takes around six hours to reach Hyderabad.

Kothagudem District Collector Jitesh V Patil provided an overview of the district, highlighting major attractions like Sitaramchandra Swamy Devasthanam, Parnashala Vishishthana, Kinnerasani Deer Park, and several industries. He mentioned that the district has 481 gram panchayats, with a population of 12 lakh across five constituencies.

The Collector noted that an airport would significantly enhance tourism and trade, making it easier for both domestic and international visitors to access the region. The MP reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to establishing an airport and urged the central team to expedite the site inspection process, assuring them of full cooperation in providing all necessary reports.
