The Cement Corporation of India (CCI), calling online bids for the machinery of the defunct cement factory, buzzing over a proposed mini-airport in Adilabad town, and getting approval from the Centre is gaining intensity.
According to CCI, e-tenders can be sent from 5 May to 23 May, and the bids will be opened after 120 days.
The residents believe that if the mini-airport is sanctioned, it will bring down the cement factory. The proposed airport is near the now-defunct cement factory, and the smoke rising from the latter would hide the runway, which will make it difficult for aircraft to take off or land.
Further, the airport would require around 1,550 acres, while the land available is only 369 acres. The land of the cement factory will be utilised for developing the airport.
The government officials will conduct a feasibility survey of Andhra Pradesh for the proposed mini-airport project, and the report has been sent to the government.
After the formation of Telangana, its state government planned to go ahead with the mini-airport project because of the favourable climatic conditions and Adilabad town centrally located, connecting north and south of India.
