Bombay HC issues notices to AAI over daily closures at Nagpur Airport

The Bombay High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Nagpur airport's daily eight-hour closures since March 2024 and has issued notices to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Airport Authority of India (AAI), and other relevant parties. The court highlighted the significant inconvenience caused to passengers by these closures. On August 2, a division bench comprising Justices N.W. Sambre and Abhay Mantri noted media reports indicating minimal progress on repairs to restore the airport to full functionality over the past four months. The court emphasised the hardship faced by travellers in central India due to the on-going disruptions. "Given Nagpur's central location in the country, maintaining smooth airport operations is crucial for the convenience of residents in central India," the court stated. (ET)
