Bengaluru International Airport (BLR) witnessed a remarkable 9% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic, handling a record-breaking 40.73 million passengers in 2024, up from 37.2 million in 2023, according to Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).

The airport's robust growth in passenger numbers was fueled by a surge in air traffic movements (ATMs) and the addition of new domestic and international destinations. Daily ATMs peaked at 782 on October 17, with an annual average of 723. October 20 saw the highest single-day passenger count of 1,26,532.

In cargo operations, BLR Airport achieved its highest-ever annual tonnage, processing 496,227 metric tonnes (MT), reflecting a 17% growth over 2023. International cargo rose by 23% to 313,981 MT, driven by demand for perishables, engineering goods, and e-commerce shipments. Domestic cargo saw a 9% rise, reaching 182,246 MT.

BIAL attributed its global recognition as a "Large Airport" to crossing the 40-million-passenger threshold for the first time, aligning with Airport Council International’s classification. The airport serviced 75 domestic and 30 international destinations by December 2024, with new partners such as Virgin Atlantic, Salam Air, and Fly91.

International air traffic grew significantly, with a 21% rise in daily ATMs and over 3,700 additional international seats introduced during 2024, making BLR Airport the third busiest in India for international passengers.

BIAL’s continuous expansion and operational efficiency have cemented Bengaluru Airport's reputation as a premier gateway for passenger and cargo traffic in the region.
