AAI Launches Aviation Safety Awareness Week

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is observing Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2024 from November 25 to 29, encompassing all airports and Air Navigation Services (ANS) locations under its jurisdiction. This initiative highlights the AAI’s dedication to aviation safety, aligning with the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan.

AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar inaugurated the week with a call to prioritize safety in all operational domains, emphasizing its significance for both employees and the public. His message underscored the importance of continuous safety awareness across the organization.

The opening ceremony featured expert presentations by Capt. Hemant Kumar, Vice President & Chief of Flight Safety at IndiGo Airlines, and Vineet Kumar, Head of Safety & Compliance at GMR Delhi International Airport. They addressed critical issues like missed approaches and managing bird and wildlife hazards, essential for enhancing operational safety at airports.

Throughout the week, AAI will implement a variety of activities to promote safety, including:

Document and procedure reviews, Mock exercises, and Preventive maintenance of facilities. These measures aim to strengthen safety protocols at airports and ANS stations.

AAI oversees the operation of 137 airports in India, comprising 24 international airports, 10 customs airports, and 80 domestic airports, along with 23 domestic civil enclaves at defense airfields. Additionally, it provides Air Traffic Management Services (ATMS) across Indian airspace and adjacent oceanic zones, ensuring the safe management of aircraft operations through ground installations at airports and 25 additional locations.

This observance reinforces AAI's commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and fostering a culture of vigilance among its workforce, benefiting the nation’s aviation ecosystem.
