John Cockerill Group has formalised a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing research in steel decarbonisation technologies, the green hydrogen value chain, and defence product development.

This collaboration integrates IIT Bombay’s academic expertise with John Cockerill’s engineering capabilities to drive innovation in sustainable solutions for the steel industry. The initiative will focus on developing technologies that support carbon reduction in steel production, enhance green hydrogen applications, and contribute to defence advancements.

As part of the agreement, both entities plan to explore the establishment of dedicated Centres of Excellence in the future. These centres will specialize in steel technology, defence products, and the green hydrogen value chain, covering aspects such as production, storage, transportation, and utilization. The partnership aligns with the growing demand for sustainable industrial practices and aims to contribute to India’s clean energy and decarbonisation goals.
