In her remarks, Kamboj added, "We regretfully observe that the political process in Syria has not yet begun and that there is still no sign of an end to the fighting there. In accordance with UNSC Resolution 2254, we continue to emphasise the importance of a political process that is Syrian-led and -owned, with a solid commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic. To end the suffering of its citizens, Syria needs to make a bold political turn in the right direction.

Reaffirming its steadfast commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic as well as to the objectives and tenets of the United Nations Charter, Resolution 2254 was notable adopted in 2015.

In order to advance politically, the constitutional committee process needs to be revived. The UNSC is aware of the Special Envoy's efforts in this area, notably his recent trip to Damascus. Speaking to the UNSC, she stated that the step-by-step strategy supported by the Special Envoy cannot be a one- sided process and demands interaction and response from all parties.

"The security situation has been worse recently, especially in northeast Syria. Additionally, terrorist groups are becoming more active. We have also witnessed neighbouring countries conducting military operations within Syria. We express our worry over such unilateral acts that violate Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty. To accomplish a widespread ceasefire, in our opinion, every foreign force must depart. We take notice of the Ceasefire Task Force's most recent meeting and pray that the parties would take action to end hostilities, “said Kamboj.
