Dharmarao Baba Atram, minister for the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sees Gadchiroli as the state's future "steel city, "as multiple plants are in the pipeline." Atram made the following announcement during the laying of the foundation stone for the steel factory owned by Surjagad Ispat Ltd: "One more big steel plant is likely to start its operations in Gadchiroli in August or September." According to Atram, there is sufficient material in the Surjagad mines to supply three or four steel companies. The Surjagad facility would employ thousands of people in the area. By 2030, the project would be finished in its entirety, he stated.
About 250 acres of the Aheri MLA's property were donated for the Surjagad company's project. "Creating jobs for young people in the area is the only goal," he declared. According to the minister, the government is dedicated to protecting the environment while building the infrastructure needed for these initiatives. He stated, "In the past, material taken out of the Gadchiroli mines was transported to Raipur, Chandrapur, and other locations for processing." Letters of appointment were given to sixteen security personnel. The steel factory gave out schoolbooks to children and ambulances to the community.
