Vedanta Aluminium Launches Women-Operated Smelter Line, Boosts Financial Literacy and Skill Development

Vedanta Aluminium successfully concluded its Women’s Week celebrations, focusing on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and skill development. A key highlight was the launch of its first-ever women-operated smelter line at its Jharsuguda aluminium plant in Odisha.
Aligned with its goal of 30 per cent female workforce by 2030, the company introduced initiatives such as self-defence training, an inclusive employee handbook, and personalized-fit uniforms to foster a more diverse workplace. The ‘UnstoppabAl’ magazine was also launched, featuring 12 inspiring stories of women employees, alongside the Pinkbook, a diversity and inclusivity policy guide.
Key events across Vedanta’s units included:
- Lanjigarh: Talk on conflict management by HR expert Aparna Sharma and felicitation of women employees.
- Jharsuguda: Self-defence training, a leadership talk, and skill development for 100 terracotta artisans.
- BALCO, Korba: Padmashri Shamshad Begum shared her journey of empowering 65,000+ women, and over 80 women employees were felicitated.
- Sijimali Mines: SHGs supported with machinery for chappal making, paper plate production, and rice milling.
- Vizag General Cargo Berth (VGCB): 52 SHG women participated in financial literacy programs and entrepreneurship training.
