The majestic Red Fort came alive with the spirit of ancient India as Vikramotsav 2025, a grand three-day celebration of Emperor Vikramaditya’s legacy, concluded on Monday. Held at Madhavdas Park, the event drew praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he lauded the initiative, stating, “Emperor Vikramaditya’s era is remembered for public welfare, good governance, and a cultural renaissance. He symbolised India’s legacy of just and people-centric leadership. His patronage of literature, art, and science continues to inspire us. The Vikram Samvat calendar, rooted in his reign, remains a proud emblem of Indian culture. The grand theatrical presentation and exhibition are more than cultural events—they are a revival of timeless ideals. I commend the efforts of Madhya Pradesh, under Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav’s leadership, in bringing Emperor Vikramaditya’s legacy to the people.”

Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav remarked, “The Prime Minister has given us the mantra of heritage-led development. These are extraordinary times, and the historic staging of Emperor Vikramaditya’s saga at the iconic Red Fort is a bold step toward reviving a golden era. This will resonate globally as India’s model of governance and democracy. Vikramaditya was an exemplary ruler who elevated Indian culture through his nine gems. The re-enactment of his reign marks the beginning of a new cultural chapter—one that Madhya Pradesh is proud to lead.”

The festival was inaugurated by Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, and attended by thousands, including dignitaries and tourists. The grand theatrical performance on Vikramaditya’s life, showcased against the backdrop of the Red Fort, captivated audiences and revived a golden chapter of Indian history.

MP tourism pavilion A major highlight was the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board’s pavilion, which drew crowds with its engaging display of iconic destinations like Khajuraho, Sanchi, Orchha, Mandu, and Gwalior. Interactive digital displays, virtual tours, and storytelling offered a glimpse into the state’s rich heritage and natural beauty.

Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trusts & Endowments Department, and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla remarked, “Vikramotsav 2025 has been a remarkable endeavour to elevate Madhya Pradesh’s cultural heritage to new heights. The festival not only showcased our art, traditions, and living heritage but also sparked fresh avenues for tourism and investment. We are confident that travellers will add Madhya Pradesh to their bucket list—experiencing the vibrancy of our monuments, the richness of our legacy, and the unforgettable flavours of our local cuisine.”

Blend of taste and tradition A specially curated MP Food Court offered visitors authentic delicacies—from Indore’s poha-jalebi, Malwa’s kachori, to tribal dishes like urad dal-kodo bhaat, and Bundelkhand’s sannata chhachh and mawa bati—drawing praise for its unique flavours.

Celebrating art, music and heritage Folk dances, music, crafts, and workshops added colour and energy, while local artisans displayed traditional crafts like Gond art, Chanderi weaving, and Bagh prints.

Vikramotsav 2025 proved to be more than a festival—it was a celebration of India’s timeless heritage and Madhya Pradesh’s cultural leadership. The event not only promoted tourism but also reignited pride in India's ancient wisdom and cultural unity.
