Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Honors 68 Mines with 5-Star Ratings

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy awarded 68 mines with 5-star ratings for their exceptional performance during the fiscal year 2022-23 at a ceremony hosted by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) and the Ministry of Mines. "Today's accolades reflect the mining community's resilience, innovation, and hard work," Reddy said, emphasizing the transformation underway in India's mining sector through strategic reforms and technological advancements.

The event, held in New Delhi, celebrated the achievements of the mining industry, which plays a crucial role in India's GDP, industrial advancement, and job creation. Among the notable awardees were Hindustan Copper, NMDC, NALCO, Tata Steel, and UltraTech, alongside several small mines.

Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey highlighted the need to balance resource extraction with environmental conservation. "The mining sector must harmonize its activities with environmental conservation and social accountability," he said.

Secretary (Mines) V.L. Kantha Rao stressed the government's goal to boost mineral production while reducing import dependence. He called for strong monitoring systems and the use of advanced technologies like automation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

The ceremony also included a traditional lamp lighting and the unveiling of two new modules ' the Final Mine Closure Plan module and the Exploration License/Composite License/Prospecting License module. A documentary on online mine regulation and sustainable mining was showcased, highlighting the sector's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary and Controller General of IBM, in his welcome speech, praised the transformation brought about by the Mining Tenement System and Star Rating System. The event was attended by mine functionaries and dignitaries from the Ministry of Mines, who cheered as each 5-star mine winner and their representatives received accolades.
