Trichy Airport installs advanced inline baggage screening system

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has introduced a state-of-the-art inline baggage handling system (ILBHS) at Trichy International Airport, enhancing both passenger convenience and security. Airport Director G Gopalakrishnan announced that the ?98 crore facility, which became operational last week, leverages advanced technology to streamline baggage handling and minimise congestion.

With ILBHS in place, passengers can now check their registered baggage directly at the counters without needing to use standalone x-ray machines. The system integrates automated screening, moving baggage through a series of security checks before loading it onto the aircraft via conveyor belts.

The ILBHS offers a four-level security screening process, ensuring rigorous baggage safety. This makes Trichy Airport the 12th in India to adopt such a system. Baggage screeners monitor for suspicious items, and any flagged baggage requires the owner to attend a manual inspection. Beyond identifying prohibited and dangerous materials, ILBHS can even detect exotic animals if present.
