Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and the Maharashtra government's industries department are scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a Rs 250 billion automobile plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed that Toyota Kirloskar Motor's decision to invest in Maharashtra was significant, emphasizing that Maharashtra continues to be a preferred destination for investors.

Fadnavis had been actively pursuing the investment opportunity with TKM, which is set to aid in the development of the Marathwada region. According to officials, the new plant will directly create 8,000 jobs, with an additional 16,000 positions anticipated in ancillary units, totaling 24,000 jobs.

The facility is expected to manufacture approximately 400,000 vehicles annually, with production slated to begin in three years. Until now, TKM has focused its investments in Karnataka, where it operates two units in Bidadi and announced plans in November 2023 for a third plant there, which is projected to commence production by 2026.

This will be TKM's first facility in Marathwada. An official from the industries department remarked that it marks the start of industrial development in the region, particularly within the automobile sector. The official also indicated that TKM plans to produce both electric and internal combustion engine vehicles at the new plant, and expressed optimism that the unit will significantly impact the region's economy once operational.
