THDC seeks bids for 600 MW-2,000 MW pumped storage projects

THDC India announced an invitation for bids regarding the development of pumped storage projects ranging from 600 MW to 2,000 MW capacity, both on and off stream. They specified a turnkey basis arrangement, inclusive of operation and maintenance for a 15-year term, across various states in India.

It was mentioned that the deadline for bid submission was May 13, 2024, and the bids would undergo opening procedures the subsequent day.

The outlined tasks encompassed site selection, conducting relevant studies and investigations, and the preparation of preliminary feasibility reports along with detailed project reports.

The responsibilities also entailed acquiring statutory approvals, establishing grid connectivity, and ensuring power evacuation up to the pooling point.

Further details included basic and detailed engineering, drawing preparation, and approval, based on a design life of 40 years with 6 hours of storage each day.

As part of the process, bidders were required to provide an earnest money deposit of Rs 100 million.

It was noted that the expected timeline for the completion of the pumped hydro energy storage projects was within five years from the letter of award. This timeframe factored in approximately 1.5 to 2 years for activities such as detailed project report preparation, land acquisition, studies, and thorough engineering.

The estimated construction period was stated to be 3 to 3.5 years.

Additionally, bidders were instructed to specify a minimum capacity of 600 MW and a maximum of 2,000 MW.
