State to Fund 2 New Stations on Pune Metro’s Swargate-Katraj Line
The proposal for the two stations was originally put forward in January 2025 by Maharashtra’s Urban Affairs Minister, Madhuri Misal. The inclusion of Bibwewadi and Balaji Nagar stations aims to alleviate persistent traffic bottlenecks in the city, offering commuters improved access and reducing congestion on key routes.
This funding decision comes shortly after Maha-Metro invited bids for the first civil contract related to the extension of the Purple Line. The tender covers the design and construction of underground stations and associated tunnels in two stages.
Tender Details: The scope of the tender includes the construction of underground stations at Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj in Stage I, and the newly added Bibwewadi and Balaji Nagar stations in Stage II of the Swargate-Katraj section.
This move marks a significant milestone in Pune’s metro development, reinforcing the government’s commitment to urban mobility and infrastructure enhancement.
Industry Note: The development coincides with preparations for the 5th edition of InnoMetro, India’s premier expo for the rail transport industry. The event, which will showcase the latest innovations in rail safety, infrastructure, signalling and AI, is scheduled for 21–22 May 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Hall No. 4, New Delhi.
