Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a major Rs 40,000 crore project on December 17, which will link 11 rivers in Rajasthan, making the state water-surplus, according to Union Jalshakti Minister C R Patil.

Patil addressed a gathering at the inauguration of a semiconductor plant, urging corporates to contribute to water conservation efforts to address future water crises. Rajasthan has been grappling with severe water shortages, and this ambitious river-linking project is expected to alleviate the problem by connecting major rivers including Chambal, Parbati, and Kalisindh, among others.

The project, which involves both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, aims to improve water availability for drinking, irrigation, and industrial use in 21 districts across both states. The plan also includes the modification of the Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal (MPKC) link project, integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP).

Patil emphasized that water conservation is critical for future generations and that this project would ensure that Rajasthan receives its maximum water supply. The initiative is expected to bring substantial relief to the region, improving the living standards of local communities and supporting agriculture and industries.
