It was reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple development projects worth Rs 55 billion in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, as per an official press release. These projects are aimed at laying the foundation for Mahakumbh 2025, while also enhancing spiritual tourism and improving connectivity in the region.
Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister was quoted as saying that India is a land of sacred rivers such as the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kaveri, and Narmada, and Prayag is the confluence and spiritual embodiment of these rivers, symbolising their significance.
The key projects outlined include:
1. Rail and Road Infrastructure: The construction of 10 new Road Over Bridges (RoBs) or flyovers, along with the development of permanent ghats and riverfront roads to improve connectivity and infrastructure in Prayagraj.
2. Swachh and Nirmal Ganga Project: This project involves the interception, tapping, diversion, and treatment of minor drains leading into the Ganga to ensure zero discharge of untreated water, along with infrastructure upgrades for drinking water and electricity.
3. Major Temple Corridors: The development of various temple corridors, such as the Bharadwaj Ashram Corridor, Shringverpur Dham Corridor, Akshayvat Corridor, and Hanuman Mandir Corridor, aimed at improving access for devotees and promoting spiritual tourism.
Additionally, the Prime Minister announced the launch of the "Kumbh Sahayak" chatbot, an AI-based tool for the Kumbh Mela, capable of conversing in 11 Indian languages to assist pilgrims. The development of the Hanuman Corridor and Akshayvat Corridor was also highlighted, alongside inquiries into the Saraswati Koop redevelopment project.
Preparations for Mahakumbh 2025 were also discussed, with plans to deploy over 15,000 sanitation workers to ensure cleanliness during the event. A temporary city is to be established on the banks of the Sangam for approximately 1.5 months, expected to accommodate millions of daily visitors. The event will create thousands of jobs for retailers, boatmen, and individuals assisting with religious ceremonies and holy dips.
