PM Modi, President Macron Inaugurate India’s Consulate General in Marseille

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated the Consulate General of India in Marseille, marking a significant milestone in India-France bilateral relations.

President Macron’s presence at the event was a special gesture, which Prime Minister Modi deeply appreciated. Both leaders were warmly welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora, who gathered to witness the historic occasion.

Expanding India-France engagement
The decision to establish the Consulate General in Marseille was announced during Prime Minister Modi’s July 2023 visit to France. The new office will provide consular services across four French administrative regions in the South of France:
  • Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur
  • Corsica
  • Occitanie
  • Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
This region is a key economic hub known for its trade, industry, energy, and luxury tourism, with deep cultural and business ties to India. Marseille, as France’s second-most populous city, will play a crucial role in further strengthening the India-France Strategic Partnership.
