Northeast to be Fully Connected to Delhi by 2027

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that all northeastern states will have direct rail and air connectivity to Delhi by 2027. Speaking at the 'Unity Utsav – One Voice, One Nation' event in the capital, he highlighted the government's efforts to bridge the physical and emotional gap between the Northeast and the rest of India. Shah emphasised that the Modi government has significantly increased the region’s budget and promoted it as 'Ashtalakshmi,' recognising its cultural and economic contributions. He noted that the Northeast offers immense opportunities in various fields, including economy, sports, research, and tourism. He praised Assam Rifles for showcasing the region’s unity and culture during the festival and acknowledged its role in maintaining stability. Shah also highlighted a sharp decline in violent incidents and insurgency, attributing it to government initiatives. Since 2014, over 10,500 militants have surrendered, and multiple peace accords have been signed. The minister urged youths to abandon violence and integrate into the mainstream, stressing that the Northeast now seeks peace, progress, and stronger national integration.
