NMC's Amnesty Scheme Nets Rs 18.63 Crore in a Month
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has successfully collected Rs 18.63 crore through its ongoing amnesty scheme. This initiative, aimed at property tax defaulters, has seen participation from over 25,000 property owners within just one month.
The scheme, which will continue until March 31, 2024, was approved by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. It offers an 80% waiver on penalties for those who pay their dues in full. The NMC has already waived off Rs 4.63 crore in penalties under this scheme.
The amnesty scheme, known as 'Abhay Yojana', applies to unpaid property tax, water tax, and rent on market department shops. Deputy Municipal Commissioner Milind Meshram highlighted that the scheme provides a significant discount on penalty charges for outstanding dues if paid before the deadline.
The maximum beneficiaries were from the Nehru Nagar zone, contributing Rs 2.23 crore, followed by Laxmi Nagar and Ashi Nagar zones, contributing ?2.92 crore and Rs.2.79 crore, respectively. This scheme is a crucial step for the NMC in addressing the issue of tax defaults and enhancing its financial health.
