NCDRC orders arrest of Mantri Estate MD for September 23 appearance

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has directed the Station House Officer of Cubbon Park Police Station to execute a non-bailable arrest warrant against Sushil Mantri, Chairman and Managing Director of Mantri Estate Management Pvt Ltd, following his non-compliance with previous orders.

The NCDRC's Joint Registrar, Iqbal Ahmed, issued the order on September 2, requiring Mantri to be produced before the commission on September 23 at 10:30 am. The directive follows an earlier order issued on August 23, where the NCDRC called for a fresh non-bailable warrant after repeated defiance of its rulings by Mantri.

The NCDRC also instructed the registry to summon the Station House Officer to appear alongside Mantri during the hearing. The warrant was forwarded to both the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and the Bangalore Police Commissioner for immediate execution.

The case stems from a January 31, 2022 order by the NCDRC, which found that Mantri Estate Management Pvt Ltd had collected Rs 71.2 million from 302 flat owners, with an agreement to refund the amount upon termination or expiry of the contract. The commission ruled that not only should the flat owners receive their refundable deposits, but they are also entitled to fair compensation for the delay.
