The Delhi Forest Department informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that the tree officer had instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to plant 1,000 trees in Paschim Vihar during the upcoming plantation season (February to July 2025), following excessive pruning of trees in the area by the civic agency.
In September 2024, a resident had filed a petition with the NGT, alleging that more than 250 trees in Paschim Vihar had been illegally pruned in February and March 2024.
The Forest Department clarified to the NGT that while it had granted permission for tree pruning last year, the MCD had carried out more extensive pruning than what had been authorised.
In a separate report, the MCD denied any violations, stating that the pruning was carried out at the request of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) and only after obtaining the necessary permissions from the Forest Department.
