The first India-EU Workshop on Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Technology, held on February 24, 2025, in Pune, marked a significant step toward strengthening India-EU collaboration in sustainable mobility. Organised under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Working Group 2 on Green and Clean Energy Technologies, the event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, standardisation bodies, and technical testing experts to discuss harmonised solutions for EV charging infrastructure. 

The workshop, hosted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), with support from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, focused on policy and technical aspects of EV charging. Key discussions covered standardisation, interoperability, infrastructure requirements, and future strategic directions for sustainable transport in India and the EU. 

Prominent attendees included representatives from India’s Principal Scientific Adviser’s Office, ARAI, Bureau of Indian Standards, and members of the European Commission. The event also facilitated knowledge exchange through expert presentations, policy dialogues, and panel discussions, addressing EV charging system testing and pre-normative research capabilities. 

Participants gained first-hand exposure to India’s advanced EV testing infrastructure through a visit to the ARAI laboratory. This initiative supports the India-EU TTC’s broader objective of enhancing cooperation in trade, technology, and sustainable development. Progress from this workshop will be reported at the next ministerial-level TTC meeting in 2025.
