India-Bhutan Land Check Post to Open at Darranga, Boosting Trade
The new facility is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including cargo inspection facilities, customs and immigration offices, warehousing, and other services necessary for effective border management. It is designed to reduce congestion and wait times, fostering faster movement of goods and people, especially relevant for the neighboring Bhutanese city of Samdrup Jongkhar.
India and Bhutan have long-standing ties, with Darranga becoming the latest addition to strengthen this partnership. Officials expect the ICP to not only bolster bilateral trade but also encourage cultural and people-to-people exchanges. This move is part of India’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity and regional integration in the eastern states, promising better access and opportunities for trade growth and socio-economic development across the region.
