High speed voyager

Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), BEML, heads the company which has got the Rs.8.67 billion contract to manufacture India’s first Bullet Train which incidentally is India's first indigenously manufactured bullet train. Indian Railways production unit, Integral Coach Factory (ICF), has placed an order with BEML for design, manufacturing and commissioning of two high-speed train sets with eight cars (coaches) each. This project marks a significant milestone in India's high-speed rail journey which will see the first indigenously designed and manufactured trainsets with a test speed of 280 kmph. The Railways was earlier relying on Japanese technology for the trains between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. But India may now opt for indigenously developed trains since talks with the Japanese are yet to reach finality. BEML’s per coach cost is also far lower than Japanese estimates, which wanted to bill India over `460 million per bullet train coach. This infrastructure will be used for all future high-speed projects in India
