Government Plans Expansion of EV Charging Facilities at Airports
Strategic Infrastructure Expansion The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) is currently collaborating with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and various state governments to identify strategic locations for EV charging stations.
Highways: MHI has already identified 20 national highways with high truck traffic. While the ministry will cover 80% of the costs, NHAI will independently manage the tendering process.
Airports & Ports: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, charging stations will be integrated into major airports and ports, supporting the government’s broader e-mobility goals.
Part of the PM Electric Drive Revolution This initiative falls under the Rs 109 billion PM Electric Drive Revolution, a key policy push aimed at accelerating EV adoption and building a robust charging ecosystem across India. By ensuring widespread accessibility to charging stations, the government aims to boost EV adoption, reduce carbon emissions, and support sustainable transportation
