EAM Jaishankar Discusses Key Issues with Japanese Envoy to India

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Japan's Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, in New Delhi. During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed his best wishes to Keiichi for his new role.
In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed his pleasure at meeting Keiichi and mentioned their discussion on the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. He extended his best wishes for the ambassador's new assignment.
Earlier that day, Ambassador Keiichi visited the Delhi Metro system, traveling from Central Secretariat to Chawri Bazar. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a statement highlighting his interest in various operational aspects of the metro. He was accompanied by DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar during the visit.
According to DMRC, Keiichi showed a keen interest in features such as the dedicated women’s coach, CCTV surveillance, and driverless trains. He also inquired about the ongoing Phase-IV expansion projects. Praising the Delhi Metro, he described it as a remarkable example of Indo-Japanese collaboration. The visit concluded with a tour of the Patel Chowk Metro Museum. The DMRC noted that the Delhi Metro project has been substantially funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since its inception and continues to receive support for its Phase-IV projects.
On Thursday, the ambassador congratulated Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh for becoming the FIDE World Champion. Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Keiichi participated in the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit. At the event, he spoke about the contributions of Japanese companies in Rajasthan and their future prospects. He also expressed gratitude to the state government for its support of Japanese businesses and met Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma during the session.
