The Republic of Congo and Italy have formalized a financial agreement to strengthen collaboration in the areas of health and infrastructure. This milestone marks the initial release of funds, signifying the beginning of the partnership’s execution. The agreement aligns with Italy’s Mattei Plan, a development cooperation initiative introduced in January 2024, which prioritizes projects in health, agriculture, and water sanitation for selected partner nations, including Congo.

As part of the cooperation, efforts will be directed toward enhancing water distribution systems in key urban centres such as Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire. This initiative is expected to improve access to clean water and contribute to overall public health advancements in these cities.

Beyond infrastructure and healthcare, Italy is also playing a role in strengthening maritime security in the region. Under a European Union mandate, an Italian naval vessel will participate in operations aimed at bolstering security in the Gulf of Guinea. This initiative reflects Italy’s broader commitment to stability and development in the region, reinforcing its strategic partnership with Congo.
