JSW Paints files appeal against Asian Paints

JSW Paints will file an appeal against the ruling of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) dismissing Asian Paints' charges of unfair trade practises. The company, which is part of the $22-billion JSW Group, will appeal CCI's decision to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

“We do not agree with the commission’s order that Asian Paints has not abused its dominant position. We are currently reviewing the order and will take appropriate steps to protect the interests of our customers and dealers for a free and fair market,” read the statement from JSW Paints.

JSW Group entered the decorative paints industry in 2019. It claimed that shortly after the introduction, Asian Paints began encouraging dealers to avoid doing business with JSW and its goods.

However, CCI decided in its ruling that Asian Paints' efforts were taken to safeguard its economic interests rather than to keep JSW Paints out of the market.
