Micron Technology seeks a construction partner for the second phase of its semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Companies such as Larsen & Toubro and KEC International are contenders, as the company is in the process of inviting bids.
Micron's first phase of the project, originally slated for completion in 2024, will now become operational in early 2025. Tata Projects was awarded the contract for the first phase in September 2023, but due to delays, Micron is considering other vendors for the second phase. The $2.75 billion project is backed by financial support from the Central government and the state, contributing a significant portion of the cost.
The new facility, with an area of 5,00,000 sq ft. will focus on wafer transformation, ball grid array packaging, memory modules, and solid-state drives. By December 2025, Tata Projects is expected to hand over the facility, and Micron will decide when to commence production. It is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
Micron is the first company to receive approval under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), further boosting its investment in the region.
