Minister of Housing of Maharashtra, Jitendra Awhad, announced that the state government was finalising an amnesty scheme for stranded slum projects benefiting 523 other schemes.
He said that a file on this has been prepared and has already been approved, which will be signed by the Chief Minister. BJP leader Ashish Shelar brought to Awhad’s notice that more than 40% of slum rehab schemes are stalled as the builders were under inquiries by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), police or economics offences wing, and some builders are in custody. Shelar said that the slum-dwellers have no place. Their homes had been demolished, the builders had stopped paying them their due rents, and guardians left for these slum-dwellers. The government should implement measures to ensure that they receive their due rents. Image SourceAlso read: Maharashtra govt plans to redevelop Juhu airport slums
