Gurugram mandates self-certification for property registration
Property owners are now required to self-certify their data through the government portal property.ulbharyana.gov.in. They must also settle any outstanding dues and acquire a no-objection certificate (NOC), which has already been stipulated as a prerequisite for property registration.
The decision was taken during a review meeting overseen by MCG commissioner Narhari Singh Banger. Additionally, the civic body has outlined plans to initiate a comprehensive campaign in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) across the city to promote self-certification.
As per a survey conducted by a private agency in January 2022, approximately 5.1 lakh properties fall within the jurisdiction of MCG. Residents had expressed grievances regarding inaccuracies in the newly generated property IDs, resulting in a flawed database. MCG is presently rectifying these discrepancies based on residents' complaints and official inspections.
The commissioner emphasized that self-certification is now compulsory for all property registrations. Furthermore, a training program will be conducted for RWAs to aid residents in the self-certification process. Lists of properties requiring self-certification will be provided to RWAs by officials in their respective areas. Additionally, properties owned by other government agencies will undergo self-certification with the assistance of MCG staff.
Banger instructed officials to promptly address applications for new property IDs and rectifications in property tax data. He also emphasized that objections should be resolved within the timeframe stipulated under the Right To Service Act.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, MCG generated an income of Rs 2.5 billion from property tax, which constitutes only 50% of its Rs 5 billion target. However, officials noted a 30% increase in revenue collection compared to the previous fiscal year, during which MCG earned Rs 1.86 billion from property tax.
