Ghaziabad, Agra, Prayagraj declared metropolitan areas

The state home department issued a notification declaring these three districts as metropolitan areas on Saturday, a day after the Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the implementation of the Commissionerate system in three districts: Prayagraj, Agra, and Ghaziabad.

In Ghaziabad, the notification stated that the new Ghaziabad commissionerate will have jurisdiction over all 23 police stations in the district, including those in rural areas. However, the government has yet to decide when the new policing system will go into effect, as well as the location of the commissionerate office in Ghaziabad.

Along with the women's police station and two newly opened stations in Crossings Republik and Wave City, these include three stations in Loni and one each in Modinagar, Niwari, Bhojpur, Dasna, and Muradnagar.

The notification also delegated the executive magistrate's powers to various categories of police officers.
