CM Orders Review of Bhutani Project

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has instructed the Town and Country Planning (TCP) minister Vishwajit Rane to revoke permissions for the Bhutani project at Sancoale if its approvals are found improper. Following public protests and assembly debates, Sawant emphasized the need for careful scrutiny of all permissions, including land conversion and environmental clearances.

Sawant has proposed that permissions for mega projects, given their inter-departmental nature, should involve the chief minister’s office. The Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) has issued a show cause notice to the Bhutani project’s developers for non-compliance with Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulations, 2010. The notice cites improper road access width and unauthorized land alterations.

The decision follows agitation by Sancoale residents, who fear the project will cause environmental damage. If proper clearances are not provided, the project may face cancellation.
