Chandigarh Unveils Rs 2.73 Billion Development Projects for FY 2025
More than 600 new houses are planned across Dhanas, Sectors 20, 43, and 46 to meet the rising demand for government housing. "There will be housing for the police department and general housing for the UT employees. Dhanas, sectors 20, 43, and 46 are identified as the locations for the construction of the houses. The financials and development plans are being prepared. Construction will start after taking requisite approvals, which is likely in the coming financial year," said a senior UT official.
The Police Training Centre in Sarangpur, estimated at Rs 980 million, will span 30 acres. "It will comprise hostel blocks having separate hostels for both male and female candidates. Space has been reserved for the officers' quarters within the complex. Also, with emphasis on physical fitness and training of the cadets, the facility will have a stadium," said a UT official. The facility will also include a theatre, seminar hall, multipurpose indoor games hall, parade ground, and healthcare amenities.
Educational infrastructure will also receive a major boost. The construction of four new auditoriums and hostels is planned, along with upgrading two heritage auditoriums in Post Graduate Government College for Girls and Post Graduate Government College in Sector 11 at a cost of Rs 500 million.
Additional infrastructure projects include:
A Rs 1.25 billion new DC office building in Sector 17. An elevated road connecting Khudda Lahora to Sarangpur. Two new railway underbridges at Kishangarh and Chandigarh-Baltana border. New box culverts at Bapu Dham.
"There is very limited scope for redevelopment of the existing housing, so the administration has to focus on new developments," the official added.
These projects aim to address the growing demand for housing and infrastructure, driven by increased pressure from UT employees and residents of Punjab and Haryana. With these developments, Chandigarh seeks to enhance its urban infrastructure and quality of life for residents.
