Bhubaneswar ranks 4th in top 10 livable capital cities of India

As per the New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) Ease of Living Index Report, 2020, Odisha capital Bhubaneswar has emerged as the fourth-ranked capital city among the top 10 liveable capital cities in the country.

As per the report, Bengaluru is the most livable capital city in India, followed by Chennai, Shimla and Bhubaneswar. While the capital city Bhubaneswar scored 59.85 in the Ease of Living Index, Delhi and Mumbai have scored 57.56 and 58.23, respectively. However, Bengaluru, Chennai and Shimla ranked higher than Bhubaneswar with a score of 66.7, 62.61 and 60.90, respectively.

The four parameters used to determine the score of the ease of living index are economic ability, quality of life, perception of citizens and sustainability. While Bhubaneswar topped with 94.8 points in the citizen perception survey, it did not do great in the ability parameter, obtaining just 11.57 ranking points out of 100.

While Bengaluru scored the highest - 78.82 points in the economic ability parameter, Jaipur emerged as the worst capital city with just 10.49 points. Out of the top 10 capital cities, Bhubaneswar ranked ninth in this parameter.

Bhubaneswar received 57.77 points in sustainability and 51.79 points in the quality of life index parameter. Other cities have done well in these two parameters.

Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, in collaboration with BMC and BDA, had conducted a drive in February 2020 by organising campaigns to encourage the public to enhance the citizen perception survey over the city.
