Govt approves construction of over one lakh houses under PMAY-U

The central government has approved the construction of 1.07 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Puducherry.
The approval for the construction was decided in the 57th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), chaired by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) secretary Durga Shanker Mishra.
Currently, the total number of houses sanctioned under the PMAY-U mission is 1.14 crore, from which 91 lakh have been grounded for construction, and over 53 lakh have been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries. The overall investment under the mission is Rs 7.52 lakh crore, with Rs 1.85 lakh crore provided by the central government.
Mishra directed the respective officials to expedite the construction of houses in their respective regions.
The housing secretary has also reviewed the work progress of Light House Projects (LHPs) in Chennai, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, Ranchi and Agartala. He has directed the officials to complete the construction within the stipulated time.
He instructed the LHP states to promote LHP technologies in India. He requested all the states and union territories (UTs) to visit LHP sites and acquire information about it.
The Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs) construction at Dimapur in Nagaland and Kot Bhalwal in Jammu received approval during the CSMC meeting. These projects will be constructed using new technologies under the Technology Sub-Mission component of PMAY-U.
DHPs are model housing projects that show field-level applications of the technologies. It enables on-site orientation, training to practitioners and students in the housing sector. To date, four DHPs have been completed across different parts of the country.
