JCB and Leica Geosystems Launch Intelligrade

JCB and Leica Geosystems have joined forces to unveil Intelligrade, a groundbreaking semi-automated excavator control solution poised to revolutionize construction sites. This innovative technology, available directly from the factory, integrates seamlessly into JCB's X Series excavators, starting with the 220X tracked model.

Intelligrade offers both 2D and 3D-ready configurations, enhancing productivity, accuracy, and safety while reducing human error. The system's semi-auto feature automates critical functions such as boom, bucket, and tilt rotator control.

Designed to cater to a wide range of projects, the 2D system provides real-time guidance for basic grading and leveling tasks within predefined site plans. Meanwhile, customers can opt for the 3D-ready option, allowing future upgrades to full 3D functionality.

For those looking to transition to the 3D system, a straightforward process awaits. Customers can liaise with their local Leica dealer, who will oversee the installation and calibration at either a JCB dealership or their preferred location.

Paul Swallow, JCB's business head for excavators, expressed enthusiasm about the innovation: "We are committed to innovation with our X Series range, and this introduction will mean new levels of efficiency and reduced operating costs."

Swallow highlighted the system's role in enhancing operator accuracy and safety, minimizing the need for additional surveyors on-site.

Tommi Kauppinen, Vice President of Heavy Construction and machine Control Field Solutions at Leica Geosystems, emphasized the collaborative effort: "By leveraging our respective strengths and expertise, we aim to create a seamless integration of easy-to-use machine control technology into JCB's excavators."

Kauppinen underscored the technology's potential to empower customers, making their operations more efficient, safer, and ultimately more successful.

With Intelligrade set to expand across JCB's X Series range and into additional regions, the partnership between JCB and Leica Geosystems heralds a new era of precision and productivity in the construction industry.
