Genie Unveils S-85 XC FE Hybrid & S-85 XC E Electric Boom Lifts

Genie has expanded its high-capacity boom lift lineup with the launch of the S-85 XC FE hybrid and S-85 XC E electric telescopic models. Designed for heavy lifting and all-terrain performance, these new machines provide a sustainable alternative without compromising power. Featuring lithium-ion battery technology, four independent AC drive motors, and active oscillating axles, these models mark Genie’s most advanced hybrid and electric products to date.

Unveiled at the 2025 ARA Show, the S-85 XC FE and S-85 XC E are built to rival the diesel-powered S-85 XC, commonly used in steel erection, rail and bridge construction, shipyards, and refineries. The hybrid and electric versions, however, offer the added advantage of zero-emission operation and quiet performance, making them ideal for urban worksites or noise-sensitive projects.

Uncompromised Lifting Power and Efficiency Despite their green credentials, these machines maintain the same lifting power as their diesel counterpart. The dual-capacity XC models provide an unrestricted 660-pound lift across their full range and up to 1,000 pounds in a limited range, accommodating up to three workers plus tools and materials.

Smart Lithium-Ion Power for Extended Runtime Both models run on 48-volt lithium-ion batteries—the smallest in the 85-foot height class, according to Genie. The hybrid S-85 XC FE reduces engine size from 74 to 24 horsepower, eliminating the need for a diesel particulate filter and cutting maintenance costs.

By utilising a compact 48-volt battery, Genie minimizes cost transfer while ensuring a full day’s operation. Lithium-ion batteries require no maintenance, unlike traditional flooded lead-acid (FLA) or absorbent glass mat (AGM) batteries, eliminating the need for watering or replacements. The built-in battery management system also protects against damage and extends lifespan.

Market Outlook: Growing Demand for Green Construction Equipment As environmental regulations tighten and contractors seek lower operating costs, demand for hybrid and electric construction equipment is rising. The global aerial work platform market is shifting towards sustainable solutions, with lithium-ion battery-powered models gaining traction. Genie’s latest innovations position the company at the forefront of this transition, offering contractors an eco-friendly yet high-performance alternative for demanding job sites.
