Indian state-run energy company NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555) plans to install a 160-MWh CO2 battery energy storage system at its NTPC Kudgi thermal power station in the state of Karnataka. NTPC picks Energy Dome tech for 160-MWh CO2 battery in India. The project will be executed on a turnkey basis in partnership with Italian long-duration energy storage firm Energy Dome and Indian industrial steam turbine maker Triveni Turbine Ltd (BOM:533655).
The project “represents an important step in NTPC's broader strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and increase the share of renewable power generation in its total capacity,” the company said in a statement today.
Energy Dome applies a patented thermodynamic process with a modular approach in which CO2 warms up, evaporates and expands, turning a turbine to generate electricity. The technology uses only water, steel and CO2.
