NTPC Issues Tender for 219,000 Tons of Biomass Pellets

NTPC has called for bids to procure 219,000 tons of non-torrefied biomass pellets for its coal-fired thermal power plant in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. The bids must be submitted by January 28, 2025, with the opening set for the same day. Bidders are required to provide an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs 1 million (approximately $11,536). However, micro and small enterprise (MSE) manufacturers with Udyam registration are exempt from this requirement. The selected bidders will be responsible for supplying, loading, transporting, and delivering agro-residue-based biomass pellets to the national capital power station. Additionally, the pellets must be transported in fully covered, waterproof vehicles to protect them from environmental elements. Pellets packed in bags will not be accepted.

Successful bidders must ensure continuous supply of the biomass pellets for 365 days from the award date, and cover the costs associated with unpacking, unloading, and any potential demurrage charges. Bidders must be Indian manufacturers or traders, or foreign companies with registered offices in India. The biomass pellets must primarily consist of agro-residue (at least 50% paddy residue), and meet specific physical and calorific specifications. This initiative follows the Ministry of Power’s May 2024 mandate that coal-based power plants incorporate a 5% biomass blend annually to reduce emissions and support renewable energy goals..
