NEFR Launches Solar Initiative in Guwahati
Boosting Renewable Energy Usage: This initiative is part of NEFR’s larger commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and reducing its carbon footprint by adopting renewable energy sources. The solar systems will help offset a portion of the electricity consumption, contributing to the region’s sustainable development goals.
Infrastructure and Execution: The selected contractor will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the solar systems, along with the operation and maintenance of the systems for the next 25 years.
Alignment with National Goals: This initiative is in line with India’s broader renewable energy objectives, which include increasing solar power capacity and promoting green technologies across various sectors, including transportation and infrastructure.
Potential Impact: The project is expected to help reduce electricity costs for the railway and provide a cleaner energy alternative, improving the region's sustainability profile. Additionally, the move could encourage other regional railways and public sector organizations to invest in renewable energy projects.
Long-Term Sustainability: By tapping into solar energy, NEFR is taking a significant step towards achieving India’s carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions targets by 2070, aligning with the national climate action plan.
This development further establishes India’s commitment to expanding renewable energy within public sector projects, contributing to the country's transition towards a greener, more sustainable future. The 3.2 MW solar project in Guwahati will serve as a model for integrating clean energy solutions within critical infrastructure across India.
