MP, UP to Build 800 MW Solar Park for Power Swap
Madhya Pradesh requires more power from October to March during the rabi crop season, while Uttar Pradesh faces higher demand from April to September for the kharif season. The solar park will consist of four 200 MW units, ensuring efficient energy distribution across both states.
Power procurement will be jointly managed by Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. The project timeline includes bid documents in May, a reverse auction in June, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) by July.
This initiative is part of a larger plan to develop 8 GW of solar capacity across both states, with an initial 2 GW phase already in the works. Morena in Madhya Pradesh has been identified as a potential site for the upcoming developments.
Madhya Pradesh currently boasts 9 GW of renewable energy capacity and aims to reach 20 GW by 2030. The 800 MW solar park is a significant step toward this goal, reinforcing the state’s leadership in India's clean energy transition.
"This project not only optimizes energy use but also strengthens inter-state cooperation, setting a precedent for future renewable energy collaborations in India," an official stated.
By leveraging complementary demand cycles, this partnership enhances grid stability and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Once operational, the project will provide reliable and sustainable power while contributing to India's national renewable energy targets.
The success of this initiative could serve as a blueprint for similar projects across the country, fostering a more interconnected and resilient energy infrastructure.
