JSW Energy has announced a new power purchase agreement (PPA) with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) for a Greenfield 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW) supercritical thermal power plant. The plant will be developed in Salboni, West Bengal, and is set to be commissioned within the next five years. This PPA marks the largest agreement signed by JSW Energy to date, with the entire 1,600 MW capacity contracted to WBSEDCL for a 25-year period. The plant will utilise domestic coal allocated under the SHAKTI B (IV) policy.
In addition, the company has successfully achieved the commercial operation date (CoD) for Unit-2 of the Utkal thermal power plant, enhancing its capacity to meet the growing power demands of the nation. Sharad Mahendra, JMD and CEO of JSW Energy, expressed pride in these milestones, which are expected to boost employment and contribute to the region's economic growth. The plants are strategically located near coal blocks, ensuring lower operational costs.
JSW Energy is focused on power generation, with key locations in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal.
