Honeywell, AM Green to Explore SAF Production in India
13 Feb 2025 CW Team
Honeywell and AM Green have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during India Energy Week (IEW) 2025 to evaluate the techno-economic viability of producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from ethanol. The partnership will also explore the production of green methanol from various carbon dioxide (CO?) emission sources and green hydrogen, reinforcing India's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Collaboration Objectives
This initiative aligns with Honeywell’s focus on energy transition and aims to enhance India’s energy security while reducing crude oil import dependency. The companies will work together to position India as a competitive global exporter of green methanol, aiding shipping companies in adopting low-emission alternative fuels and helping airlines meet CORSIA mandates for low-carbon fuel replacements.
Industry Perspectives
Ashish Modi, President of Honeywell India, emphasized that this partnership will advance India's low-carbon economy and foster an ecosystem that supports SAF blending mandates, positioning India as a leader in alternative fuel innovation. By leveraging Honeywell’s proven carbon capture technologies and ethanol-to-jet solutions alongside AM Green’s expertise in green hydrogen and ethanol production, this collaboration aims to drive sustainable industrial transformation.
Mahesh Kolli, Co-Founder and Group President of AM Green, expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Honeywell, highlighting AM Green’s leadership in clean energy transition solutions. This partnership will contribute to India’s ambition of emerging as a key exporter of sustainable and cost-effective green molecules, accelerating global industrial decarbonization.
Broader Implications
The initiative also benefits Indian farmers by increasing demand for ethanol feedstocks and aligns with the government’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, boosting green hydrogen production through green methanol for both domestic and export markets.
